natural-skin-care-advantages

A clear and beautiful skin is one of the main elements of a person’s beauty. Healthy skin makes one to feel confident and beautiful within oneself. Those with a glowing skin are jealously looked upon by others. Our skin care regimen and lifestyle habits play a vital role in deciding the skin’s health.

No one likes pimples, dark spots, dark circles, and wrinkled, dry or scaly skin. Some of the leading factors that take a toll on the quality and texture of your skin is stress, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, and pollution, damage from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, excessive smoking and drinking alcohol. Based on the nature and the type of your skin, adequate preventive measures should be taken to achieve a clear and glowing skin.

There are thousands of skin and beauty care products in the market that promises to give you clear and glowing skin. Instead of relying on these products, you can try some simple and easy herbal skin care treatment remedies to improve the overall health and appearance of your skin.

Skin Types

There are different types of skin and so are the different problems associated with them. Dry skin can get itchy sometimes and needs to be hydrated often to keep it glowing. Oily skin is prone to pimples and has a greasy texture. Some people have normal skin, something that they can be happy about, and then there are people with a combination skin who have to face the problems of both dry skin and oily skin. Perfect skin is not too oily or dry but needs to be taken care with regular care.

Solutions to Natural Skin Care

Every skin type has a problem. But the change needs to come from within, that is, skin care should be part of your daily routine. If it is done properly, even as you age your skin will look glowing. Here are some easy ways to achieve a clear-glowing skin and a healthy life with naturally available things.

·         Fiber Rich Diet:

fiber-rich-diets

Everything healthy starts from your diet. Digestive problems result in skin impurities; hence taking in the right amount of micro-nutrients and vitamins is great for clear skin. Food for glowing skin should be carefully selected. Natural protein foods like fish, nuts and white meat, grains like Wheat and brown rice, vegetables like broccoli, tomato and beets are very healthy and good for your skin.

Try to avoid processed and oily food. Omega3 fatty acids are great to reduce inflammation; this is found in walnuts, salmon and soybeans. More intake of fruits and vegetables will leave you with spotless and glowing skin.

·         Leave Stress Free:

Stress hormones lead to excessive oil production which will result in white heads. Running, a warm bath and a short sleep help reduce stress and get rid of acne. At least 7 to 8 hours of sleep is needed for an active mind and glowing skin. Occasional visits to the spa and swimming pool will relax your muscles. You can also relieve stress with yoga or listening to relaxing music or reading books.

  • Drink 8 Glasses of Water Daily:

water-for-dry-skin

Drinking enough and more water will help your skin to purify the impurities. It hydrates the body and removes excess oils and dirt. 15% of our skin is made up of water.Drinking at least 2 liters per day gives the skin a bright, noticeable change in less than a week. It helps you get rid of dryness and wrinkles, and helps boost the immune system.

·         Skin Toners

Toners are an important part of skin care. It provides deep pore cleansing to the skin and reduces the size of the open pores, and makes the skin smooth and flawless. Toners are supposed to be used right after cleansing the skin with a foam based face wash in order to restore the skin’s pH balance. Regular use of a skin toner also helps in solving the problem of acne.

·         Skin Exfoliation

Exfoliation helps in achieving a glowing natural skin by getting rid of the dead skin cells. But when it comes to topical skin care, this part is often ignored by most of us. Periodic exfoliation using natural ingredients like Green gram flour, oats, orange peel or lentil powder can remove dead cells, dust, impurities and blackheads from the skin and prevent the breakout of acne. Regular exfoliation makes it easier for the skin to absorb moisturizers and serums that are applied topically.

·         Avoid Too much of Sun:

sun-exposure

Sunlight is a great source for vitamin D for skin in the morning from 7am to 9am. However avoiding the direct sun after this time is very essential. The UV rays are quite strong and they not only damage the texture of your skin but over exposure to these rays can also result in skin cancer. Avoid the sun especially from 10 am to 2 pm as the sun rays can get really harsh, and this is a must for even normal skin care.

Try to wear clothing that covers most of your skin and if possible carry an umbrella while going out at these times of the day. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen with SPF above 45 while going outdoors.

·         Acne Care:

Pimples on your face often puts you in an embarrassing situation, especially when you are in the teens.  It is often very tempting to pop or squeeze the pimples, but it will only result in scars, redness and inflammation. The infected material will be pushed further into the skin, causing more pimples!

The blemishes caused by squeezing the pimples take longer to heal than the pimple itself. The pimples normally stay for three or four days, but the scars caused by squeezing them remain there for a lifetime. Adopt homemade remedies for pimples and acne to stay away from side-effects.

·         Detoxification

Dullness of the skin, pimples and acne are often caused by excessive accumulation of toxins and waste products in the body. It is important to flush out these waste products with the help of detoxification. An easy way to detox your body and each morning is to start your day with a glass of warm lemon water.

A detox diet should consist of fruit and vegetable juices that are loaded with skin-saving nutrients. It is best to stay away from sugar, salty snacks and alcohol for at least 5 days to give the skin a healthy break and prevent water retention.

·         Skin Hydration:

It is important to hydrate your body both inside and outside. Wash your face with cold water twice every day, more than this can result in dryness. The natural oils produced by the skin are required to nourish it and provide flawless beauty and skin care. By using cold water, the opened pores will be closed, which prevent foreign material to enter.Wash your face in circular movements, do not scrub as it causes skin irritation. Use homemade facial to wash oily skin.

·         Sleep without Make-up

Make up is an inseparable part of any modern woman’s beauty regime. But it is often loaded with harsh chemicals that not only harm the skin, but also attract dirt and clogs the skin pores causing pimples and acne. In addition, it also promotes the growth of yeast on the skin.

Therefore, make it a point to remove the foundation, eyeliner, powder, mascara, gloss and lip color before going to bed no matter how tired or worn out you are.

·         Physical Work-out:

Physical activity is not only essential to losing weight and stay fit, but also to get flawless skin naturally. It is a necessity in this busy life. Activities like indoor aerobic exercises increases blood and oxygen flow to the skin cells. Exercise is the best way to cleanse the skin from the inside.

A short walk or 30 minutes at the gym are an added advantage not only for the body but also for the skin. Make it a daily habit to indulge in activities like dancing, cycling, skipping, running, walking, anything that will make you sweat!

·         Daily Vitamin C Intake:

One of the most important vitamins for healthy and flawless skin is vitamin C that helps in enhancing the skin complexion and preventing signs aging. Regular intake of vitamin C improves collagen production, keeps away age spots and pigmentation, enhances skin brightness and improves its ability to protect itself from the harsh UV rays of the sun.

Some of the best food sources of vitamin C are guava, strawberries, blackcurrants, grapes, broccoli, kiwi fruit, Amla or Indian Goose Berries, lemon, sweet potatoes and papaya. Vitamin C can also be consumed in the form of supplements and capsules.

By adding these changes to your lifestyle and experimenting these natural skin care solutions will cleanse your skin from within and provide natural clear looking skin.

To save your hair and polish it with moisture, here are some of the trusted herbal solutions which can really help the hair grow with volume and fullness.

  1. Avoid Shampooing: Shampoo strips moisture from the scalp and hair, so wash strands every other day. Everyone’s hair is unique and so taking the winter conditions into account skipping shampoo and opting for a quick rinse after a natural hair conditioning treatment works just fine to keep hair clean and moisturized.

Natural Hair conditioning Method

Blend all the ingredients (1 Ripe Banana, 2 Table Spoon Honey and 2 Table Spoon Olive oil) in a blender to make a smooth paste. Apply this paste on to hair and leave it for half an hour. To avoid dripping wear a shower cap. Rinse thoroughly with water since banana can stick to your hair. Pat dry the hair.

  1. Avoid blow-drying and brushing a wet hair: In order to prevent hair damages and other breakages, it is advised to avoid blow-drying and brushing your hair when it is wet. Once the hair strands are parched, comb the hair using a wide-toothed comb with a few drops of olive oil.
  2. Avoid exposure to lice: An itchy and dry scalp always causes discomfort and embarrassment. Sometimes it gives rise to the doubt that whether it is an onset of lice attack. The best solution to prevent dandruff is to take a quick, cool shower to reduce scalp’s exposure to the drying hot water.
  3. Massage the scalp with Vitamin E and coconut oil: Before taking a shower, massage the scalp with Vitamin E, olive, or coconut oil. These oils can moisturize the dry hair and at the same time replenish natural scalp oils. Tea tree oil can also be used as a popular treatment option for fungal and bacterial infections like dandruff. Wash the hair and scalp with tea tree oil daily to naturally cure a dry, itchy head.
  4. Switch Grooming Routine: Combing hair using natural bristles can help to redistribute oils from the scalp to the rest of the hair. Stick to cotton hats (which conduct much less static electricity than acrylic and wool) during winter.

Natural Ways for Winter Hair Protection

Keep warm on a Cold Day: Take quick showers in 5 minutes and use only lukewarm water on a cold day. Exposure to hot water can strip moisture from your hair and skin.

Dress for the weather: When heading outdoors, try to wear clothes that will keep you warm with a scarf, hat and gloves to avoid prolonged exposure to cold air and wind burn.

Consume Healthy Fats: During winter store your shelves with healthy fats, omega-3 fatty acids, such as nuts, fish, olive oil, sardines and avocados.

Keep hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated.

Eat Fruits & vegetables Rich in vitamin C: Vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables such as citrus fruit or oranges and dark green leafy vegetables can help boost your body’s production of collagen (a protein that maintains skin and other connective tissues).

Hair Colouring with Henna

Henna Hair Coloring(1)

Hair colouring is a decent style statement for women looking for a change. Some do it to get over a breakup and some do it when they are bored. Some do it when the seasons change and some do it when their favourite celebrity changes her hair colour. And above all, most women try colouring their hair when those grey hairs start to show up. But whatever the reason, colouring your hair with chemical based hair colours needs caution. Every honest beautician will admit that hair colouring damages your hair to a certain extent, no matter how small. But you need not be disheartened. Henna, the natural and completely safe hair dye is an excellent option to colour your hair with absolutely no side effects.

Henna belongs to the Lythraceae family of herbs and goes by the binomial name Lawsonia inermis. Henna is scientifically proven to be effective in relieving headaches and boosting hair health. Historical references show that henna had been used for cosmetic purposes from time immemorial in ancient India. There are even religious customs associated with henna. And most importantly, henna has always been an integral part Indian wedding.

Henna gives different colours depending on the type of hair and its original colour. Natural henna gives colours ranging from orange to auburn to burgundy. You may see hair colour products with many other colour varieties claiming to be Henna. Though they may have henna content, beware that the colour varieties are achieved by chemical colouring agents. Since the very idea of using henna to colour your hair is to eliminate the risks associated with chemical hair colours, make sure what you buy is purely henna indeed. The best choice is natural henna which gives orange colour. The only other safe varieties of henna that do not contain harmful chemicals are black, brown and burgundy. Any other hair colour variety claiming to be henna is phoney.

henna powder.jpg

Natural henna powder can be darkened to brown or even black by cooking it in a rusted pot. Some fine chemicals that are safe for the hair is added at levels as low as 3.5% to achieve the desired dark shade. These chemicals are not pigments as they are but merely alter the property of henna powder. Obviously, such products are completely safe for colouring. In addition, these natural herbal products provide excellent nourishment to your hair and help retain its smoothness and brilliance. Natural henna also increases hair volume, strengthens it and even acts as a conditioner, giving you healthier looking locks.

Natural burgundy henna is a rare breed of henna, grown mostly in the Indian subcontinent. The natural colouring with burgundy henna covers grey hairs well and is also ideal for root touch-up for mid-range brunette hair shades.Since burgundy is the most sought after hair colour in the western world, there are hordes of fake henna products claiming to be made from natural burgundy henna. Trust only reputed Indian Ayurvedic herbal cosmetics suppliers to make sure you are not fooled with counterfeit products.Genuine Ayurvedic specialists are also known for their ethics and you can rest assured of the quality and authenticity of products they deal with.

How to Take Care of Your Hair in summer

good-summer-hair-care-tips

We have all been eagerly waiting for the longer, warmer days of summer after fighting our way through the intolerable cold months of winter. The sunny summer is finally here, but caring your well maintained hair can be troublesome during this otherwise healthy season. Some of these tips may sound quite obvious but not all are aware of these basic precautions for sustaining the health and beauty of their hair in summer.

Protection from the sun

As we all know of the harmful effect of exposing hair to excessive sunlight, the first priority should be to shield your hair from the glaring, harmful rays of the sun. Wear a hat or cover your hair with a scarf when you are going out for a long time in the sun. This will protect your hair, much like how your sun protection creams protect your skin. Wearing a hat will also turn out to be useful in protecting your face from sunburns.

Regular conditioning

Deep conditioning your hair at least twice a week during the summer days is recommended. If your hair is too sensitive, settle for conditioning to a minimum of once a week. Conditioning is more important during summer than in winter. As most of us spent more time in the pool in summer, the chemicals contained in the pool water ruins your hair. It is better to opt for herbal conditioners like Jatamansi hair conditioner, which will replenish the essential moisture.

Shampoo frequently

Since the air is more polluted in summer, shampoo your hair more frequently than you do in other seasons and make sure you use a milder shampoo.  Shampoos made from herbs like Bhringraj, Amla or Henna is most suited for summer as they have a natural cooling effect on the scalp.

Protection from Chlorine

Due to the increased number of users and the scarcity of water in summer, swimming pool water often contains more chlorine, which is harmful to hair health. The best way to protect your hair from over exposure to chlorine is to wear a silicon swimming cap before jumping into the pool. Silicon caps effectively barricade your hair from the chlorine polluted water. This is especially important if your hair is blonde, since chlorine can turn it into green! If this is not practical, wash your hair with plain water before and after entering the pool. Washing hair before wetting it in pool water is important because less pool water will be absorbed, as the hair is already wet.

Staying hydrated

Much like skin and the rest of the body, dehydration adversely affects your hair too. Drinking plenty of water is the simplest way to fight dehydration. This is not only good for your hair, but for your overall health during the hot summer.

Trimming

In summer, many women experience increased split and dry ends. Keep your hair trimmed regularly, so that your hair looks fresher and thicker. Trimming at least once a month is suggested. Even if you do not observe split ends, trim your hair at least once in summer.

Avoiding blow-dryer

Try to avoid using blow-dryers and let your hair dry naturally or minimize its use. Usually, the summer warmth is enough to dry your hair after a gentle towel-dry. Also, avoid hot water for washing your hair in summer, as this also can dry out your beautiful locks.
